Extensions for Discstarter

There are some extensions for Discstarter that allow using Discstarter also in other application scenarios. The extensions are mostly provided by third party publishers.

Server2Go allows you to run dynamic web pages that rely on technologies like PHP, Perl, etc. and database management systems like MySQL or SQLite directly from CD-ROM. Server2Go is a fully fletched web server with a small memory footprint that can be run from CD-ROM without requiring installation. HTMLProtector is a tool that helps you protect the content of your web page by preventing others from viewing your source code. HTML Protector offers three JavaScript based encryption methods to choose from and a variety of other features (further details)!

The Full text Search Engine Extension allows you to integrate a full text search engine to your CD-ROM menu. Therefore a search index file is generated by a special tool that ships with this extension. The search index file is then put on the final CD-ROM master as well. A special search form which is integrated into your CD-ROM menu allows to the user to access the search engine functionality. The form is only visible in Discstarter; this means that you can also use the same CD-ROM menu in other browser (of course without the search engine functionality!). The result page that shows the results of a query can also be customized using a template file. The following figure shows how this extension works:
