Ubuntu is a distribution of the free Linux operating system that can also be used on the Raspberry Pi and is recommended as the operating system for running the FrontFace Player app under Linux. The following steps explain how to install Ubuntu on a Raspberry Pi:

1. Preparation: You will need a microSD card (at least 8 GB, 16 GB+ recommended), a card reader (if your PC does not have one built in), and your Raspberry Pi with a power supply.

2. Download Raspberry Pi Imager: Download the tool from raspberrypi.com/software for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) and install it.

3. Insert the SD card: Insert the microSD card into your computer.

4. Open Imager and select the device: Launch Raspberry Pi Imager and click "Choose Device". Select your specific Raspberry Pi model (e.g., Raspberry Pi 4 or 5).

5. Select the operating system: Click "Choose OS" and, under "Other general-purpose OS", select "Ubuntu". Choose the Ubuntu Desktop variant.

6. Select the storage target: Click "Choose Storage" and select your microSD card. Note: All data on the card will be erased.

7. Start writing: Click "Next" or "Write" and confirm the security prompt. Imager will download the Ubuntu image, write it to the SD card, and then verify it.

8. Insert the SD card and start the Pi: Once the process is complete, remove the SD card, insert it into the Raspberry Pi, and connect the power supply to start it.

9. Initial setup: Connect to the Pi directly using a monitor and keyboard and then run an update to bring the system up to date:

   sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
   

With that, Ubuntu is up and running on your Raspberry Pi, and you can proceed with installing FrontFace.
